A-F State Grading System for Schools You are probably aware of information on the news concerning the State Grading System for schools. This week grades were made public for all schools in the state. The grade for Elementary Schools is determined by NECAP assessment results. 50% of the school grade is based upon Proficiency – the percent of students who scored proficient or proficient with distinction on the math and reading assessments. The other 50% is based upon Growth…both growth for all students tested from one year to the next and then growth for the lowest 25% of the students. This is to focus on students who need the greatest amount of help to make the needed growth. Hope’s overall score was 305.4 (out of a possible 400 points), which earned us an “A“ on this measure. It is not the total picture of what schools do, but a strong indicator of how well students do on the NECAP tests. Of the 422 elementary schools graded, only 50 earned a grade of “A”. We are pleased that our school has done so well. Thanks to staff and students for all their hard work in earning this grade.
